MDPH has proudly partnered with UMass Memorial Medical Center to develop an infection prevention and control (IPC) curriculum specifically designed for EMS professionals. The IPC challenges that EMS personnel face vary and are often different that those of facility-based healthcare workers. In the pre-hospital environment, EMS personnel treat an array of patients in the field as well as in varied healthcare settings, manage unknown diagnoses, and handle rapidly evolving situations. All these things put them at higher risk of exposure to pathogens while performing their job.
